Meet the Giant Squid

Meet the Giant Squid

There’s something about the deep ocean that feels like a slightly spooky fairytale. It’s dark, cold, and full of creatures that look like they've come from another planet. One of the most fascinating? The giant squid.

Giant squids are elusive, mysterious, and incredibly cool. They can grow at least 10 metres long (that’s longer than a bus) and have eyes the size of dinner plates.  These enormous eyes help them see in the pitch black of the deep sea, where light barely reaches.

Giant squids have a mantle, a head, eight arms covered in suction cups and two long tentacles for grabbing prey.

For a long time, no one had ever seen a giant squid alive. Scientists only knew about them from dead ones that washed up on shore or ended up in the stomachs of sperm whales. It wasn’t until 2004 that a live giant squid was finally photographed in its natural habitat. Since then, a few lucky research teams have captured footage, but it’s still one of the least understood creatures on Earth.

What I love most is that this animal actually exists. It’s not a sea monster or a myth (although it most definitely inspired a few). It’s real, it’s rare, and it reminds us how much of our planet is still unexplored.

That’s part of the inspiration behind my Giant Squid earrings — a little tribute to one of the ocean’s strangest superstars. They’re quirky, interesting and definitely not something you see every day. Just like the creature itself.

Two swirly acrylic tones are used to make up the giant squid earrings. Beautiful dangly rainbow tinted stainless steel chains form the tentacles. They are big, bold and and beautiful.

One happy customer left this lovely review "I chose these earrings for my daughter who always wears spectacular earrings. These surpassed many of hers! She loves them. On the first day she wore them she was stopped in the street to be asked about."

If you’re into marine biology, cryptids, or just things with too many arms, this one might be your kind of science fashion.
